Igogwe and Itete Hospitals Signed Service Agreement with Rungwe District Council
The long waited Service Agreement between two Voluntary Agency Hospitals in Rungwe District Council namely: Igogwe and Itete hospitals was colourfully signed today with Local Government – Rungwe District Council at Youth Centre in Tukuyu.
The agreement was signed by: Bishop Evaristo Chengula- Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Mbeya and Otinel A. Mlimba on Behalf of Dr. Israel – Peter Mwakyolile- the Bishop of ELCT Konde Diocese with District Executive Director for Rungwe District Council. The event was witnessed by DMO Rungwe, Rungwe District Council Legal Advisor. From the side of the Church- the Health Secretaries for Konde Diocese and Catholic Diocese of Mbeya were present together with management teams from two hospitals. Importantly, the CSSC Zonal Team- the Zonal Secretary and Technical Advisor participated in the signing of Service Agreement ceremony.
Before signing the agreement, brief speeches were delivered. The DMO for Rungwe District gave an overview of Service Agreement. That, this Service agreement will be for two main services: Reproductive and Child Health (RCH)- that means, pregnant women and under five years children (Out Patients) will access free services for one year and second component is to Establish and Strengthen Organizational Structures and Institutional capacities for Improved Health service Management at all levels. Through this agreement, the hospitals will benefit by having staff as they will be employed by the government and posted there.
Based on that information, the Church leaders acknowledged the Government for agreeing to sign Service Agreement with these two hospitals. Basically, the hospitals are providing services to the community of Rungwe without any segregation. The Bishop argued the management team to work hard in ensuring the services is provided according to quality standards as expressed in the agreement for the betterment of the People they serve.
As a response to that, the District Executive Director commented the efforts of the two hospitals in Rungwe namely: Igogwe and Itete Hospitals. He added that, the agreement would help in solving one of the challenging area- staff shortages, as the agreement would be used to employ staff to the hospitals. Again, he noted that this agreement will definitely improve collaboration as both parties will have to discuss the progress of the agreement and that is in the spirit of Public Private Partnership.
Finally, one of Rungwe PBF Pilot Project outputs which is to harmonize PBF approach between the State and the Church through Service Agreement Signing has been met today. It is hoped that agreement will be successful and ultimately the health Care of the People in Rungwe get improved.

HISTORY OF MORAVIAN CHURCH IN RUNGWE
After a short stay, Meyer and Richard, together with their interpreter, travelled to the east of Kapugi where they met Chief Mwakanyamale and were friendly welcomed. It was the same with Chief Mwainyekule and Chief Mwakubombaki. But despite the good welcome from the chiefs, the missionaries could not decide on a place to settle. They finally headed back to Kapugi. As Martin and Haefner hadn't yet recovered, Meyer and Richard decided to continue by themselves to Rungwe Hills. This place was the one Dr. Kerr Cross had suggested the Moravians should settle. When they arrived they were well welcomed by a 13 year-old Chief named Mwakapalila, who gave them the permission to stay wherever they choose in his territory. Meyer and Richard found a convenient place on a small hill called Kigungubija, a place with plenty of water, near Mount Rungwe. On 21 August 1891, a service was held by Meyer and Richard to consecrate that place. The foundation of Rungwe Mission had been laid. The happiness of that moment was of short duration, for when Meyer and Richard reached Kapugi again, they arrived only to bury their friend and fellow missionary George Martin who had died of Malaria. It was a hard start for the remaining three. Nevertheless, Rungwe proved to be well chosen for to build the first mission station: it was fertile land, with lots of pure water and had, at 1450m above sea level, a pleasant climate. After they had well settled, the missionaries were joined by their wives. The first ten years, however, were to be very hard on the missionaries as they had to face several deaths. But the first three missionaries were, accordingly to a proved Moravian tradition, to stay many years in Tanzania: Br. Richard stayed until 1903, Br. Haefner until 1909 and Br. Meyer stayed as long as 1916.
The Moravian Church in Tanzania – Southern Province is an Ecumenical Christian Protestant church founded around 19th Century by the first missionary from Herrnhut, German who arrived in Tanzania and started work in Rungwe/ Mbeya Region in 1891. This was a result of a mission expansion of Protestants who started the church in Kunward, Bohemia in the current Czech Republic in 1457. The church spread to Moravia from where it got its mane over the years, to many parts of the world. Moravian Church in Tanzania – Southern Province is a member of Council for Churches in Tanzania (CCT) and fully recognized by the Moravian (Unitas Fratrum) Unity Board world wide. The church has structure that go down to the grassroots thence enabling it to be the most reliable institution to transform human kind holistically. The Moravian Church in Tanzania – Southern Province covers the area of southern Tanzania with geographical districs of Kyela, Tukuyu and Ileje. Also had missionary area like in Malawi country, Zanzibar, Dar – Es – Salaam, Costal region, Morogoro, Songea etc with an estimated number of more than 410,792 Christians in province.
